Groundbreaking set for new Sioux Falls men’s prison
Ground will be broken on the site of the new men’s prison in Sioux Falls Wednesday.
The new men’s penitentiary will be built on 148 acres in northeast Sioux Falls along Benson Road. The state purchased the land for $12.5 million. The project’s price is capped at $650 million.
The size, location in Sioux Falls and price of the project were decided after a lengthy debate in the Legislature and multiple task forces.
The groundbreaking comes after the state spent about $8 million for a two-160-acre parcel site in Lincoln County between Harrisburg and Canton in 2023. The state has already spend at least $50 million in developing that site. View the full story on KELOLAND.
