ASCO truck drivers are helping build emergency levees in Ft. Pierre, SD.  Heavy rains and a deep melting snowpack have led to historic water levels in the Missouri River basin. Six reservoirs on the Upper Missouri River are straining at or near capacity, forcing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to release water that will push the river several feet above already high levels. ASCO driver, Terry LaBore, was on KSFY’s June 2nd broadcast.

Joe Noe’s first indoor Crooks Christmas House at the Western Mall was a success. The attraction drew hundreds of people to see the synchronized lights display. $27,220 was donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the second highest fundraising year in the show’s five year history. This amount will grant five wishes to South Dakota children. Billy Pollema and the Henry Carlson Company crew helped build the display. Henry Carlson Company helped transport a 70 foot, 7,000 pound Christmas tree from a Rhonda Smith’s home in Sioux Falls, SD, to Sanford Children’s Hospital. The tree was donated by the Sanford doctor because it was starting to hang on her house.

A 150 ton crane lifted the tree onto a semi trailer. Greg Mohr, Equipment Manager, said the tree looked like a house being moved down 22nd Street because of its 25 foot diameter. The children watched the tree being delivered from their hospital rooms.

“I was doing this for the kids, well you should have seen their faces in the window at the hospital. Priceless,” Mohr said.

Joe Noe, owner of the “Crooks Christmas House” recently moved from Crooks, SD, to Sioux Falls, SD, and needed a new home for his large Christmas light display. Noe has been lighting up his yard for five years. In that time, the Crooks Christmas House has donated thousands of dollars to the Make-A-Wish foundation and has been featured on the national news. Noe wanted to move the Christmas light display from his house to a more public location with a parking lot, allowing more people to access the light show. The Sioux Falls Western Mall became the new home for the light display.

Noe decided on a castle theme for this year’s display. Henry Carlson Company is building the display and Augustana theatre students are painting the castle. The display will be open everyday from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. starting Thanksgiving day and ending New Year’s Eve.

The exhibit will be free, but Noe will collect donations for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
